Baidu is a Chinese multinational technology company specializing in Internet-related services, products and artificial intelligence. It is one of the largest Internet companies in the world and it's head quarters house over 70,000 employees. Baidu offers many services, including a Chinese search engine, as well as a mapping service, music streaming, video streaming, and more.
Baidu was founded in 2000 by Robin Li and Eric Xu. Both of them are Chinese nationals who studied abroad; Li in the United States and Xu in Japan. The name Baidu literally means "hundred times," a reference to a Southern Song Dynasty poem that describes how a search for the one true path is like looking for a needle in the haystack.
Baidu is often compared to Google, as both companies offer similar services, such as a search engine, maps, and more. However, there are some key differences between the two companies. For one, Baidu has a stronger focus on the Chinese market, while Google is more global. Additionally, Baidu offers many services that Google does not, such as a music streaming service and a video streaming service.
